Wednesday
Our first houseguests arrived Wednesday evening and the kids were so excited to see their grandparents (we were too)! I made gumbo with chicken, andouille (cajun sausage) and shrimp and we all enjoyed it (I think it was pretty close to authentic). Then it was off to bed for the night.
Thursday
Joey had school in the morning, so Nana Sue came with me to drop Joey off. He had a great day at school and after we picked him up again, we went to "Ducky Joe's" indoor playground to play for awhile. The kids had a great time climbing on the slides and the bouncer and playing with the dress-up clothes and big, soft blocks.

Nana Sue with Princess Abigail.Thursday was Mom's birthday, so after "Ducky Joe's," we went out to dinner at Rips on the Lake. We had a beautiful view of the sunset and enjoyed a wonderful seafood dinner (it's so fresh here) on the patio of the restaurant. The restaurant is right on the water and since there is a great risk of flooding, it's on stilts. It offers an amazing view! After dinner, we went home, had cake and Mom opened her gifts. Another nice day :)
Friday
Dave and Dad went golfing on Friday while Mom and I took the kids shopping. When we all got back home, we carved our pumpkin, ate dinner and went out trick-or-treating. (I recapped Halloween in another blog).
Saturday
We relaxed in the morning and then went to the Audobon Zoo in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans in the afternoon. What a great zoo! The exhibits are all in their natural habitats, but much closer than at the Detroit Zoo so that you can see the animals better. The zoo was absolutely packed because Swamp Fest was going on, but we still got to see a good amount. We spent most of our afternoon in the Swamp Exhibit where all of the local Louisiana animals are on display. The highlight of the exhibit is the alligators. They have regular gators, but also a giant alligator (12 feet long) and 2 rare white alligators with blue eyes. Amazing!
Friday

Abi and Joey in the wagon in front of the Zoo's fountain.On the way home, we drove through the New Orleans Uptown neighborhood. It's filled with beautiful old mansions and many colleges. Loyola and Tulane are right next to each other and both have absolutely gorgeous buildings. As we drove past Loyola, we saw James Carville (political strategist and professor at Tulane) jogging. Even with a great day, that was definitely a highlight!
Sunday
Bright and early Sunday morning, we went to Mass at our new church, Mary Queen of Peace. Both kids were a handful, but all in all, they behaved well. Then we just relaxed at home in the afternoon and Dave and I went shopping for a couple of hours before dinner (we almost forgot what it was like to go out on our own!). The kids had a great afternoon playing with Nana and Papa. We finished off our evening with veggie lasagna... mmmm...

Sunday

Joey was so tired at the end of the day on Sunday, he fell asleep on the bed with Papa watching football.Monday
Monday came and it was time for Nana and Papa's visit to end. We spent the morning playing and had the traditional New Orleans Monday meal of red beans and rice for lunch. Then, everyone packed up and Dave and Joey drove Nana and Papa to the airport for their flight home.
We all had a great visit and we enjoyed showing our guests our new home and town. We can't wait to have more visitors!
