The Journey to the Great White North - Day 1

We're headed to Michigan for a white Christmas and yes, we're making the dreadful long drive again. We have stopped in Kentucky for the night after about 11 hours of driving and we'll finish the last 6 hours in the morning. The kids are now tucked in bed and Dave and I are unwinding after being cooped up in the car. The kids were pretty good and the drive wasn't bad. I spent most of the day turned around, fetching snacks, toys and coloring books. Here are a few highlights from an awfully long day...

  • Joey asked the infamous, "Are we there yet?" no less than a thousand times. We weren't even 2 miles from home when he first uttered those words. He knew we were staying the night in Kentucky, so after a couple hours he modified his question to, "WHY aren't we in Kentucky yet?" To which Dave responded, "Because it's that way and we haven't gotten there yet!" Wise words, but it didn't prevent Joey from repeating the question every chance he got.
  • We're COLD! Living in the South has thinned our blood incredibly fast. Pumping gas this morning in Mississippi, where it was near 50 degrees, Dave was shivering and dreading the northern climate. As the day progressed, it got colder and our teeth are chattering.
  • Abi prefers her dolls sans clothes. Oh well, at least Barbies now come with their undies embossed on them.
  • Dave and I discussed the finer points of why we like snow one week per year and why we'll gladly leave it behind and you can keep it!
  • About an hour before we got to the hotel, the DVD player quit on us. NNNNOOOOOO! We prayed the rest of the way that it was just the cord and not the actual player (It was. Whew! Just need a new cord).
Day 2 starts in 11 hours! Yikes!
