Day Trip to Baton Rouge

Last Saturday was a monumental day for the pro-life movement in Louisiana (which is to me, one of the most important issues in our nation). On the 38th Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the Louisiana Right To Life held their first annual Life March in Baton Rouge.  We only live about an hour away from the state capital and since a small group from church was attending, Dave and I decided to pack up the kids and march as well.  What a moving morning.  It started with a 0.8 mile walk from the Old State Capital to the current State Capital building.  Along the way, there were cheers of "We love babies, yes we do.  We love babies, how 'bout you?!"  and the Rosary was prayed as a group (one of my favorite things to do - praying the Rosary while walking - so meditative). The walk was followed by music and speakers on the Capital steps.  Many prayers were said and tears were shed.  It renewed my passion for the movement and hopefully made an impact on many folks.  The kids are still too young to even have the pro-life issue explained to them, but Dave and I agreed that it was good to tell them that we were standing up for unborn babies and that we were putting our faith into action.

First Louisiana Life March

By noon, the march was almost over, but the kids could sit still no longer, so we departed and spent the rest of the afternoon tooling around BR.  We stopped for lunch at Jason's Deli.  We'd never been there, but apparently it's a chain deli with oodles of healthy/organic options.  It was yummy!  MmmmMmmmMmmm.

Refueled, we decided to take a drive around the LSU campus.  Joey and his friends at school are obsessed with the LSU Tigers.  Dave still dreams of Joey attending U of M, but I think it could be a toss-up (plus out of state tuition is not attractive to me).  Eh, doesn't matter anyway, we're talking about a Kindergartener here.  Anyway, the campus is absolutely beautiful, but the main attraction was the promise of seeing "Mike the Tiger."  The kids were SO excited to see a tiger, claiming they'd never seen one before (I gently reminded them of the great number of times we've visited zoos).  So we arrived at Mike's habitat and there he was, napping right along the fence.  So fun for the kiddos!  If you want to check out Mike's website, click here.

After our visit to LSU, it was time to head home.  Both kids zonked out in the car and when we got home, it was time for homemade pizza and movie night (Shrek Forever After - very cute).
