Joey really enjoyed the floats and quickly learned the common phrase, "Throw me something, Mister!" Joey seems to have sensitive ears though and really didn't like the bands. Every time a band would approach us, he would run back to the stroller and hide. Oh well, he still had a great time!
Abigail is our Mardi Gras party-animal! We're going to have to keep an eye on her when she's older!! She danced when each band came through and stared down the street looking for the next float. I was hoping to let her sit in the stroller part of the time, but she wouldn't let me put her down. Needless to say, after 1 1/2 hours of holding a 23 pound child with one arm and reaching up for throws with the other arm, I was exhausted.
Overall, we had a great time kicking off our first Mardi Gras season in New Orleans. We went to another parade here in Mandeville on Friday and plan to go to one on Monday and another on Tuesday. This could very well be one of our new favorite times of the year!
One of the many beautiful floats from the Krewe of Olympia. For all of our northern family and friends, riders stand on either side of the float (under the second row of lights) and throw beads, stuffed animals, cups, etc.
