Joey Goes To School!

Bright and early on the morning of Tuesday, October 7th, Joey woke up for his first day of preschool. He got dressed, brushed his teeth, ate his breakfast and told me he didn't want to go to school. Typical. But we made it out the door on time (at 8:30) and made our way to St. Timothy's Preschool. We even had time for a quick picture.

We arrived at school at 8:45 to meet the teachers before the rest of the kids arrived at 9:00. All the way in, Joey insisted that he didn't want to go. But as soon as we walked into his classroom, he set about his day of playing. Joey's teachers are Mrs. Lacompte and Mrs. Suter (he can pronounce both names with ease and politely greets them by name every morning). After talking to the teachers for a few minutes, Abi and I left and Joey didn't even notice. We went back to pick him up at 12:00 and he was out playing on the playground. The teachers said he had a great first day. I hadn't enrolled him in lunch bunch (12:00-1:00 and I would send a lunch) and he saw the other kids' lunches set out when he came in to wash up and go home. He really wanted to stay. Well, we were going to meet Dave for lunch on the southshore, so I promised Joey that I'd sign him up for lunch bunch and he could stay on Thursday. So we got in the car and drove to meet Dave for lunch and Joey promptly fell asleep in the car (poor kid played so hard). Later I learned that he made a paper pumpkin, drew a picture with blue, red & pink markers, played outside, went to music class and learned songs and he played with trucks and dinosaurs.

Joey has since been to school on Thursday and again this Tuesday. We drop him off and pick him up in the carpool line and he stays for lunch (although he never eats his sandwich and is starving when we get home). Mrs. Lacompte told me that he's doing great. He comes home yakking up a storm about what he did that day and is usually full of 5 or 6 new songs, which he sings the whole way home and for the rest of the day. The teacher told me he's been using the bathroom (one of my biggest concerns) and he hasn't had an accident (knock on wood). Every day when we get home, we have to empty his shoes of sand!

This Thursday is picture day, so we have to send him in his St. Timothy's t-shirt. Mom's Tea is next week and Dad's Night is the week after. We can't wait to get to know his classmates and meet the other parents (Joey says he hasn't made any friends... right...). Parent teacher conferences are in November and I fully expect to be informed that Joey has a wild imagination and has the memory of an elephant.

So all is good with Joey... we're so proud of him!
