Cub Scout Belt Loop University

Continuing with our double-booked Saturday afternoon...

After Joe's soccer game we went straight across the road to Fountainebleu State Park for his first Cub Scout event (only an hour late).  Joe is so excited to be participating in Boy Scouts.  I don't think I've ever seen him this excited about anything.  We attended his first Den meeting last Wednesday and his first event on Saturday.  The event was a Belt Loop University where leaders had stations set up to teach the boys about following a map, communication, photography, art and geology.  For participating at each station, the boys will receive a loop to wear on their belts.

After they completed each station, we participated in a clean-up community service project in honor of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.  The boys spent some time picking up downed branches in the park from Tropical Storm Lee.  Joe will earn his first merit badge for participating in this!

Learning about maps and compasses

The "letter" he wrote at the communication table
Also at the communication table, the boys had to draw a picture and then tell a story to it

And another...
Relay races to get the ants out of their pants

This was taken during hour #4 of "Drag Abigail Around for Joe's Activities Day".  Not happy.

Learning how to sketch his drawing to later paint

Painting his Fleur de Lis

The finished art project.  Joe loves the Saints and the Fleur de Lis.  He was thrilled to learn that the Fleur de Lis is also part of the Boy Scout logo.  We're going to frame this!

When we got home, Joe asked me if he had another Boy Scout event the next day.  Excited?  No event on Sunday, Joe, but next Saturday is your next one.  Do you think you can make it through the week?
